Stewards of the Coast
Why CARE Certification Sets Our Crew Apart
When you step aboard with Low Country Drifters, you’re not just booking a private boat charter; you’re heading out with stewards who are deeply invested in protecting the Georgia coast you came to experience.
We’re proud to note that our entire team, Captain Bryan, Captain Matt, and Steph, has earned the CARE (Coastal Awareness & Responsible Ecotourism) certification.
While the CARE program is a prestigious collaboration between UGA Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant, Manomet, and the Georgia DNR, the certification belongs to our individual team members. This means that every time you head out with us, you are with a guide who has been specifically trained to balance high-quality tourism with the protection of our coastal ecosystem.

More Than Just Navigation
Being “certified” means more than knowing the tides or the best hidden beaches. It means we’ve spent weeks immersed in the science, history, and ethics of this ecosystem, so your time on the water is as responsible as it is memorable.
Because our crew is CARE-certified, your trip includes insight into:
- The Georgia Coast’s Natural Systems: From coastal high ground to sprawling estuaries, we interpret the living, breathing systems that protect and define this region.
- Priority Wildlife: We’re trained to spot and protect key species like Atlantic bottlenose dolphins, sea turtles, and the North Atlantic right whale, ensuring every encounter is respectful.
- Shorebirds & Migratory Birds: From American oystercatchers to red knots and wood storks, we help you identify what you’re seeing and how to observe without causing disturbance.
- Human History & Archaeology: We share the deeper story of the coast, from indigenous stewardship to maritime and military history.
- A “Citizen Scientist” Mindset: Every trip is guided by a strong conservation ethic, rooted in understanding regulations, protecting habitats, and leading by example on the water.
Why it Matters
The best way to love the Low Country is to understand it.
When you book a private tour with Low Country Drifters, you’re choosing a team that has gone the extra mile to be trained, tested, and trusted by Georgia’s leading coastal organizations.
Anyone can drive a boat. We’re here to interpret the water. Whether you’re exploring with Captain Bryan, chasing the sunset with Captain Matt, or scanning the marsh for birds with Steph, your trip supports the long-term health of the very place you came to enjoy.
Content development for this program was funded through the Coastal Zone Management Act of 1972, as amended, administered by the Office for Coastal Management, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and passed through the Coastal Management Program of the Department of Natural Resources. The program has been developed through a collaboration among UGA Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant, Manomet, and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (GA DNR).
