Daufuskie Island Water Taxi from Savannah

Baggage & Arrival Information

What can I bring? Where do we meet?

At Low Country Drifters, our baggage policy is designed to support flexible, efficient, and stress-free travel. Once you’ve read the policy and you’re still unsure whether your 10-foot inflatable swan counts as a ‘personal item’? Contact our crew, and we’ll let you know!

Also, be sure to check out helpful information for your arrival and group coordination at our marina. We’ve also created some useful packing tips for Daufuskie.

Baggage Guidelines

Getting to Daufuskie should feel easy. We’re not an airline, and we’re definitely not in the business of nickel-and-diming your suitcase or surprising you with add-ons. One of the best parts of our water taxi service? We don’t charge for baggage.

That said, a little structure helps us load safely and keep everyone comfortable on board.

Baggage Allowance

For overnight, extended-stay passengers, your water taxi fare includes:

  • One medium-sized suitcase, bag, or tote per person; up to 50lbs. We highly suggest packing in 17-gallon totes for easy stacking and waterproofing.
  • One personal item per person (e.g., a laptop bag or briefcase); up to 10lbs
  • One medium cooler (up to 60 qt.)

Our boats are open and don’t have enclosed cabins, so luggage will be exposed to the elements. We carry heavy-duty plastic on board if needed; however, many of our regular Daufuskie guests prefer to pack in sturdy, lidded bins for easy stacking and protection.

For your convenience, we keep coolers on board to help keep groceries fresh during the ride. That said, we strongly encourage guests to bring their own cooler for easy transport upon arrival.

PRO TIP: Pack efficiently. Most rental homes on Daufuskie have washers and dryers, so if you’re staying for an extended period, consider doing a load of laundry rather than overpacking. It keeps things lighter for everyone and makes loading smoother.

Large, Bulky, or Additional Items

Bringing bikes, multiple strollers, oversized items, or extra gear? Just give us a heads up. But first, check if your rental has it

Advance notice helps us prepare for safe, efficient loading and ensures there’s comfortable room on board for everyone and their belongings.

Pets

Pets are welcome and ride free! We kindly ask that you let us know in advance if you’re bringing a pet, and please share their size so we can plan accordingly. We ask that they remain leashed or crated.

A Quick Note About Groceries & Supplies
  • There are several places on Daufuskie where you can pick up everyday essentials like milk, ketchup, beer, wine, diapers, and water. Availability can vary, and selection may be limited, especially during busy seasons.

If you have specific preferences or specialty items, we recommend bringing them with you, especially prescription medications, as there is not a pharmacy on the island.

  • Refillable water bottles are strongly encouraged. Whatever comes onto the island eventually has to be hauled off, so reducing single-use plastics makes a meaningful difference. A sturdy, refillable bottle goes a long way out here, and the water is safe to drink.

Arrival & Group Coordination

A smooth departure sets the stage for a smooth start to your island time.

Arrival
  • Please plan to arrive at least 20 minutes before departure. This gives everyone time to check in, organize luggage, and load comfortably without feeling rushed. Boats run on tides and schedules, so a little buffer goes a long way.
  • The ride between Savannah and Daufuskie Island is approximately 45 minutes. If needed, we recommend using the restroom at the marina prior to departure. A secure restroom is located upstairs, and your captain will provide the door code upon arrival.
Parking
  • For the sake of other marina guests, we kindly ask that you minimize the number of overnight vehicles whenever possible.
  • You’re welcome to use the closer parking spots temporarily for unloading. Baggage carts are available to help transport your items down to the dock. Once unloaded, please move your vehicle to the back lot for the duration of your stay.
  • If your group is arriving in multiple vehicles, please let us know in advance how many vehicles to expect so we can coordinate parking. A quick heads-up keeps things orderly and stress-free for everyone.
Loading
  • To ensure safe and balanced transportation, we will not begin loading until your entire group has arrived and all cargo has been accounted for.
  • We always strive to stay on schedule so that other trips run smoothly and everyone’s vacation begins on time. We understand that travel delays can happen, and we’re committed to making things work one way or another. If you’re running late, please call us as soon as possible so we can plan accordingly.
