Thunderbolt’s Blessing of the Fleet – Honoring the Heart of the Coast
Thunderbolt, Georgia, knows how to celebrate its roots, and the Blessing of the Fleet is one of the Low Country’s finest traditions. Held in the spring along the Wilmington River, this event is all about honoring the local shrimpers, fishermen, and watermen who keep the coastal spirit alive.
The 2025 festival brought out the community in full force—complete with a lively parade, local eats, live music, and the heart of it all: Bishop Stephen Parkes’ ceremonial blessing of the boats. It’s a moment that ties generations together, wishing safe travels and full nets for all those who make their living on the water.
We were especially proud this year because Steph from the Drifters crew won the official T-shirt design contest for the event! Her design celebrated the soul of the working waterfront and the beauty of these tidal traditions.
After a 20-year hiatus, the 2025 Thunderbolt Blessing of the Fleet made a jubilant return for its fourth year in a row under Mayor Dana Williams’ administration.
The shirts are now available for purchase at our marina, Safe Harbor Bahia Bleu. Though we couldn’t be there in person this time (our crew was driftin’ on spring break), we’re already looking forward to the 2026 Blessing and the chance to celebrate once again the watermen and women who inspire everything we do.
