Explore Savannah’s wild side by boat

Untouched coastal views

Every Low Country Drifters trip has an eco-tour baked in. Whether you booked a shark tooth hunt, a sunset cruise, or a Daufuskie day trip, you’re still moving through the same tidal creeks, salt marshes, and barrier islands — so the wildlife shows up either way. An Eco Tour is simply what happens when you make that the whole point instead of the backdrop.

Skip the crowded tour boats. This is a private charter through Savannah’s tidal creeks, salt marshes, and barrier islands — just your group, a licensed local captain, and whatever the water decides to show you that day. Your captain can craft the trip entirely around birding, wildlife spotting, and hands-on ecological discovery, or simply let the Intracoastal Waterway and secluded marshes reveal Savannah’s coastal wildlife and history at their own pace.

Discover Local Wildlife

Savannah’s waterways are alive with a diversity of animals—both resident and migratory. As you explore the marshes, islands, and hidden inlets accessible only by boat, keep your binoculars ready: the Low Country is teeming with life.

Wildlife you may encounter
  • Birds: Roseate spoonbills, snowy egrets, great blue herons, ospreys, anhingas, and cormorants. Migratory birds, such as sandpipers and terns, typically pass through from March to May and again from September to November, offering spectacular seasonal sightings.
  • Marine Life: Atlantic bottlenose dolphins, manatees, sea turtle nests (May to October), and an assortment of crabs and oysters.
  • Reptiles & Amphibians: American alligators, turtles, diamondback terrapins, and various marsh frogs.

Each tour offers a unique opportunity to witness the vibrant ecosystem of the Low Country firsthand. Whether you’re seeking an intimate birding excursion or a broad ecological adventure, our captains guide you to the best wildlife hotspots and provide fascinating insights into their behavior and habitats.

Savannah Eco Tour

Experience Savannah’s Low Country like never before, where every trip is an eco-adventure, and every view tells a story.

Why Go Private

Most Savannah eco tours put you on a large boat with 20–40 other passengers, on a set schedule, following a set route. A Low Country Drifters Eco Tour is different:

  • Private charter: your group only, up to 6 guests, no strangers
  • Flexible pacing: linger where the wildlife is, skip what isn’t
  • Local expertise: captains who read the tides and know where to look

Combine it with anything — add shark tooth hunting, a beach stop, or a sunset finish to make it your own day on the water.

Tailored Experiences

While every tour naturally includes a focus on ecology, our eco-specialized excursions can prioritize:

  • Birdwatching and photography are prime during the migratory seasons
  • Wildlife-focused cruises to see dolphins and other creatures
  • Hands-on learning about marshland ecology–like why wildlife love the Low Country
  • Seasonal highlights, such as migratory birds or nesting sea turtle areas

Our goal is to make every trip both educational and immersive. Guests can pause, observe, and appreciate the small wonders of the marsh, or simply relax and take in the scenery.

FAQs

Choose a 4-hour half-day or 6-hour full-day private charter. Longer trips allow more stops and more time to find wildlife.

Dolphins are spotted on the vast majority of trips, but wildlife sightings can’t be guaranteed — it’s nature, not a zoo. Your captain will do everything possible to put you in the right place at the right time.
